11 Years Single: Why I Never Gave Up on Love
For the past 11 years, I've been single. Here's why I never gave up on love — and why being single is not a failure.
For the past 11 years, I've been single.
People often hear that and immediately assume something must be wrong.
"You must be too picky."
"You've been single for that long?"
"Don't you get lonely?"
What if we've been looking at being single all wrong?
Single Isn't a Failure
Somewhere along the way, society convinced us that being in a relationship is success and being single is failure.
I don't believe that.
Being single gave me something many relationships never could.
Time.
Time to heal.
Time to grow.
Time to become comfortable with my own company.
Time to build businesses.
Time to raise my daughters.
Time to rediscover the woman I wanted to become.
Looking back, I wouldn't trade those years for anything.
I've Had My Heart Broken More Than Once
I'm not single because I've never experienced love.
I'm single because I've experienced heartbreak.
More than once.
I've trusted the wrong people.
I've loved people who couldn't love me the way I deserved.
I've believed promises that were never meant to be kept.
There were moments when I questioned my own worth.
Moments when I wondered if love simply wasn't meant for me.
Heartbreak has a way of making you question everything.
But here's what I've learned.
A broken heart doesn't mean you stop believing in love.
It means you become wiser about who deserves it.
Healing Changed My Standards
For a long time, I thought finding love was the goal.
Now I know becoming the right person mattered even more.
Healing changes your standards.
You stop chasing attention.
You start looking for consistency.
You stop settling for chemistry alone.
You begin valuing character, kindness, emotional maturity, and peace.
The things that once impressed you no longer do.
And that's a good thing.
Growth should change what you're willing to accept.
Why I Built HOOKED
Ironically, after spending 11 years single, I decided to build a dating app.
People ask me why.
Because I still believe in love.
Not the kind built on endless swiping or collecting matches.
The kind that's built through real conversations, shared experiences, and showing up for each other.
I built HOOKED because I believe technology should help people meet, not keep them scrolling forever.
The goal was never more matches.
The goal was more meaningful dates.
More genuine connections.
More opportunities for love to happen in real life.
Never Give Up on Love
If there's one thing these 11 years have taught me, it's this:
Never let heartbreak convince you that love doesn't exist.
Let it teach you what love should look like.
There's a difference.
Every heartbreak taught me something.
Every disappointment refined my standards.
Every season of being alone helped me build a life I'm genuinely proud of.
Today, I don't need someone to complete me.
I want someone who complements the life I've already built.
That's a very different place to begin a relationship.
To Anyone Who's Single Right Now
Don't let anyone make you feel like you're behind.
You're not.
You're becoming.
Keep healing.
Keep growing.
Keep building your life.
Keep protecting your peace.
And whatever you do, don't lower your standards just because you're tired of waiting.
The right relationship should add to your happiness, not become the source of it.
After all these years, I still believe in love.
Maybe even more than I did before.
Because now I know that the best love isn't rushed.
It's worth waiting for.
And when it comes, you'll be grateful you never settled.
